The Abbey of Bon Repos, overlooking the Nantes to Brest Canal in the heart of Central Brittany, enjoys a rich historical past as a Cistercian abbey founded by the Viscount Alain III de Rohan in 1184.
The splendid Abbey Church was the chosen resting place for the Viscount de Rohan family. The Abbey itself enjoyed several centuries of great prosperity.
During the French Revolution it was sold as National Property and dismantled stone by stone over the course of the 19th century.
The 800th anniversary signaled the beginning of its resurrection. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the association des Compagnons de l'Abbaye and numerous volunteers who contributed to the restoration work over a period of twenty years from 1986 to 2006 it has returned to its former glory. However most importantly the Abbey of Bon Repos lives again !
