Jacques le fataliste et son maître - Lecture accompagnée par Nicolas Veysman

Autant vous prévenir : Jacques le fataliste est un
texte singulier. L'homme de l'Encyclopédie et du
Supplément au voyage de Bougainville, Diderot
donc, y narre les aventures de Jacques, flanqué
de son maître, tous deux discutant en cheminant,
et inversement... Mais ce qui est étrange, c'est qu'on
ne sait pas où ils vont ni qui ils sont, et que leur dialogue
s'interrompt sans cesse, incluant à tout
moment un intervenant de passage, voyageur, hôtesse,
chirurgien... et même vous, lecteur, qui passez par
là ! Au sein de cette polyphonie joyeuse, on apprend
beaucoup, car Diderot émaille son récit de thèmes
tant philosophiques que littéraires, prônant magistralement
la liberté comme voie d'accès au bonheur.

Après un développement sur le mouvement des Lumières,
l'accompagnement critique s'attache aux particularités
de l'oeuvre : le mélange des registres, le roman à tiroirs,
l'ironie, les approches philosophiques ou picaresques...
Un résumé de la structure de Jacques le fataliste permet
de rendre claire l'alternance entre récit central et récits
enchâssés. Un groupement de textes travaille sur un
topos romanesque : l'entrée dans la troupe de brigands.
