With the overproduction of images in the media, a 'derealized' architecture of images has developed: Architecture is decreasingly perceived by direct experience and increasingly by reference to images. The consequences of an increasingly image-based societal communication are addressed by architect Shigeru Ban, artist Olafur Eliasson, cultural historian Peter Geimer, and philosopher Friedrich Kittler.
About the author
Shigeru Ban established his own practice in 1985, and now has offices in Tokyo, Paris, and New York. The recipient of numerous awards for his architecture, Ban is a professor at Keio University and has taught at Columbia University.
Olafur Eliasson, born 1967 in Copenhagen. He lives and works in Berlin since 1995. Since 2009 Professor at the Berlin University of the Arts.
Peter Geimer ist Oberassistent an der Professur für Wissenschaftsforschung der ETH Zürich und freier Mitarbeiter im Feuilleton der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung.
