About the author

Mahmoud Darwish wurde 1941 im Dorf al Birwe bei Akko (Palästina) geboren. Nach mehreren Inhaftierungen verließ er Israel und ging 1970 ins Exil. Darwish gilt als einer der herausragenden Dichter der arabischen Welt und als die poetische Stimme des palästinensischen Volkes. Zuletzt lebte er in Amman und Ramallah. Er starb 2008 in Houston/Texas.
