Erskine Childers, geb. 1870 in London, aufgewachsen in Irland. Studium des Jura in Cambridge. Nach dem Studium unternahm er mit Freunden lange Seefahrten entlang der Dänischen und Baltischen Küsten. Sekretär im Britischen Unterhaus, Freiwilliger im Burenkrieg. Veröffentlichungen historische Werke, bekannt geworden durch den Roman 'Das Rätsel der Sandbank' - erschienen 1903. Nach Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs Partisan im irischen Bürgerkrieg auf republikanischer Seite. 1922 erschossen von politischen Gegnern.
