Michael von Albrecht, geb. 1933, studierte in Stuttgart, Tübingen und Paris Musik, Klassische Philologie und Indologie. Nach der Promotion 1959 und der Habilitation 1963 lehrte er in Heidelberg als Ordinarius für Klassische Philologie (1964-98) und als Gastprofessor in Amsterdam und USA. Ehrendoktor der Aristoteles-Universität in Thessaloniki (1998), Rußlanddeutscher Kulturpreis (1991), Praemium Classicum Clavarense 2000. Mitglied mehrer Akademien und Fachzeitschriftenredaktionen.
