RETURN TO THE BEGINNING
The original Culdcept was released in 1997. While much of the gaming world was busy trying to navigate new, futuristic terms like “polygon graphics” or “full-motion video,” Culdcept had a completely different focus. Dice and cards! Over the years, several entries in the series appeared, but that very first game never made it outside Japan’s borders. With the enhanced port Culdcept The First, we return to the beginning!
ROLL THE DICE
Culdcept The First plays like a mix between a board game and a card game. You use a die (or two dice with certain spells) to move around the game board. The spaces you land on can be claimed by summoning a creature to defend them. Spaces come in four different colors that represent terrain types, which in turn match the creatures you can summon. You can also upgrade these spaces, granting additional advantages.
OVER 300 CARDS
If an opponent lands on your space, they can choose either to pay a toll or to attack your defending creature with one of their own. In these battles, players can also use special item cards to maximize their chances of winning. Your deck (or “book,” as it's called) consists of 50 cards of various types, and in total you have over 300 cards to choose from! The player who gathers the target amount of magic power and then returns to the starting point wins the match!
THE BOOK OF CREATION AND DESTRUCTION
Humanity has long thrived on the continent of Bablashca. But when mysterious stone tablets were discovered across the land, the world was thrown into deep chaos. These stones were revealed to be fragments of Culdcept – the Book of Creation and Destruction. According to prophecy, he who commands the Culdcept gains infinite power. Soon, everyone was fighting for control over these scattered fragments. As the war spread, a lone youth rises and sets out on a long journey... And you get to follow along on the adventure!
