Crime has nearly disappeared.
An artificial intelligence known as PREDICT analyzes billions of data points to identify those most likely to commit society's most serious crimes before they happen. Courts no longer determine guilt. They measure certainty.
Kent Mercer helped build the system.
For years, he believed PREDICT represented the future of justice, objective, unbiased, and nearly impossible to fool. Then his wife, Jean, is arrested for a murder she has not committed.
As Kent races to save her before the system carries out its irreversible sentence, he uncovers evidence that certainty may not be the same as truth. With time running out, he must decide how far he is willing to go to stop the very system he helped create.
In a world governed by certainty, one missing variable may change everything.
The first novel in the PREDICT trilogy.

Über den Autor / die Autorin

Russell Pearson is an educational technologist and instructional design specialist who has spent most of his career working in higher education. His work focuses on helping faculty integrate emerging technologies into teaching in ways that support learning rather than replace it.For decades, educators have pursued what many consider the "holy grail" of education: the ability to provide individualized instruction tailored to each student's needs. Various educational technologies have promised to move us closer to that goal. To Pearson, artificial intelligence may be the first technology capable of meaningfully delivering on that promise. At the same time, he regularly works with faculty who have both deep curiosity and real concerns about the role of AI in the classroom-especially generative AI. Much of his work involves helping educators navigate those tensions and find ways to use AI thoughtfully and responsibly.
