André Gorz (1923 2007), geboren in Wien, verbrachte die Kriegsjahre in der Schweiz und ließ sich nach Kriegsende in Paris nieder. Er arbeite mit Jean-Paul Sartre und Simone de Beauvoir an der Zeitschrift Les Temps modernes , war Redaktor bei L Express , später bei der Wochenzeitung Le Nouvel Observateur , die er 1964 zusammen mit Jean Daniel gegründet hatte.In seinen Buchpublikationen profiliert sich Gorz als Theoretiker der Arbeiterselbstverwaltung und der politischen Ökologie.
