Geomorphosites are places of abiotic heritage with high geomorphological value that are important for understanding Earth's history and have a scenic and territorial component. Therefore, they have great didactic and geotouristic potential. These sites are not of high scientific value, but they hold local value due to their connection to the territory, environmental and cultural heritage. They also have important links to the populations that inhabit them, especially in Natural Protected Areas (NPAs), where natural-but not abiotic-heritage is recognized.
This book establishes geomorphological heritage in the Sierras de la Paramera and la Serrota and in the Cañón del Río Lobos, both Natural Protected Areas located in Castilla y León. It presents geomorphological maps and an inventory of geomorphsites in these NPAs, with recommendations for disseminating their geomorphology and promoting sustainable public use through the diversification of the tourism offerings. Moreover, this volume presents a methodology for evaluating the potential use of inventoried geomorphsites, focusing on their didactic and geotouristic potential.

Über den Autor / die Autorin

Rosa María Ruiz-Pedrosa
is a Professor at the University of Salamanca, Castilla y León, Spain. She holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Valladolid, and her research focuses on the study, inventory, and evaluation of Natural Heritage, specifically Geomorphological Heritage and Geomorphosites. Her research interests focus on Natural Protected Areas of Castilla y León, with the aim of applying geotourism and geodidactics iniciatives to Geomorphosites, allowing for local development in territories particularly affected by depopulation. She has conducted research and training stays at universities such as Lausanne (Switzerland), Modena (Italy), Lapland (Finland), and Utrecht (Netherlands), and participates in various research projects on Geomorphological Heritage and its geotouristic and geodidactic development. The results of her research have been published in various high-impact recognized journals, providing new methodologies in the inventory and evaluation of Geoheritage. Currently, she is exploring new ways to disseminate the importance of Geomorphological Heritage among the population, especially in formal education and local population of Natural Protected Areas, refining evaluation methods and seeking new strategies for citizen science.
