The book traces the pedigree of the hybrid Philippine legal system arising from the marriage of the civil law of Spain and the common law of the United States. It goes on to tell how the hybrid system uses the processes, structures, and tools of both systems to cope with current economic, social, and political developments in and out of the country. "Your book provides an excellent introduction to the history of Philippine law, and is an incredibly valuable resource for anyone who wants to understand the current Philippine legal system" (Rick Bales, Dean and Professor of Law, Ohio Northern University).
