This project aimed to develop a gesture set for social media actions and surface computing actions on touch-screen mobile devices, directly involving users in the design process. Two experiments (experimental group and control group) were conducted in this study among seven different cultures (Malaysian, Indian, Chinese, Iranian, Arabian, Bangladeshi, and African) in Malaysia, using non-technical and experienced users in the usage of touchscreen mobile devices, in order to identify cultural differences and similarities in the use of gestures on touchscreen user interfaces. In total, the cultural similarities found in this study outweigh the differences.
