I found myself far from my son and our home in December 2017 because of a lingering injury that required distant health care. While I was away, my 14-year-old son was training for the freestyle
ski team when he critically broke his femur on a trampoline on December 1. He was quickly transported by helicopter to Vancouver for surgery - thousands of miles from home! The injuries kept us far apart for several weeks right through the
new year - our first Christmas apart. To help close the distance and the loneliness of separation, I wrote
a poem (almost) daily between December 2nd and 25th through
the eyes of our mutual friend Trigonometry. I shared it with Emmett
each afternoon thanks to the beauty of the internet. We both healed and are fine. We maintain a close relationship.
