Dr. Mala Kapur Shankardass
is a sociologist, gerontologist and health social scientist. She has specialized in these fields from India and abroad. She holds honors degree in Sociology from Miranda House, Delhi; completed post-graduation, M.Phil and Ph.D in Medical sociology from Delhi School of Economics and a post-doctorate in ageing studies from East West Centre, Hawaii, USA and Department of Sociology, Delhi University. She did courses in gerontology from International Institute on Ageing – United Nations, Malta. Has received different Fellowships from institutions like US government, UNFPA, Ford Foundation, European Union, and was Fellow with World Demographic Association, Switzerland; National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) Melbourne University, Australia, International Institute for Asian Studies, Leyden University, Netherlands. She retired from University of Delhi in 2021 after 38 years of service in many senior level and important positions. She continues to be involved with few national and international institutions in academics by delivering lectures/talks and in research capacity as a reviewer, advisor. She currently works as an Independent Consultant for work in the fields of gerontology, health, gender, and development issues. She has been on national committees organized by different ministries of the government, has completed various assignments with United Nations agencies, such as UNFPA, WHO, UN Program on Ageing, UNOC, and HelpAge. She is Managing Trustee of Development, Welfare and Research Foundation; Asia Representative of International Network for Prevention of Elder Abuse; Executive Member of Asia Pacific Ageing Consortium and occupies honorary positions with few other organizations. She has edited and authored of 15 books published by reputed publishers such as Routledge, Springer Nature, Rawat & B R Publishing House; 3 more will soon be out in the market; has over 100 articles in reputed journals/books and also writes for national newspapers, and magazines. She reviews for international and national journals and is also on the Editorial board of some. She has been a Panelist on TV channels and radio programs of a few well-known media houses. She has received certain awards in recognition of her specialized work. She is a Paul Harris Fellow and was an active Rotarian. She remains connected with advocacy, activism and intellectual activities.
Dr. Avinash De Sousa
is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist and works as a Research Associate at the Department of Psychiatry, Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College, Mumbai. He is the Founder Trustee of Desousa Foundation, a trust that works in mental health awareness across all sectors. He is a Visiting Faculty and Professor across Mumbai and at multiple and psychotherapy training programs across India. He has over 950 publications in national and international journals and is the author of 12 books on mental health. His areas of work include school mental health, geriatric mental health and dementia. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Journal of Mental Health and past Editor of Annals of Indian Psychiatry. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Geriatric Mental Health. He is a visiting faculty at various post graduate psychology and psychiatry programmes across India.
