This book is the follow-up research and practical achievement of the national science and technology support project Research on the planning standards of villages, townships and rural communities and Research on the planning technology of rural settlements in the eleventh five-year plan. The whole book is divided into three parts. The first part puts forward the three suitability principles of suitable for environment, technology and human settlement, the Trinity ideology of industrial economy, social culture and spatial environment and the cognitive framework, three levels , including township, village and village construction, constructing the theory of Beautiful Countryside construction. The second part based on rural planning and construction practice of 7 typical villages in Huangyan District, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, interpreting targeted planning and construction strategies. The third part focuses on the display and analysis of the whole process of the rural construction of Shatan village, Yutou Township, Huangyan District.
This book combines theory and practice with typical cases study. Pictures and texts are listed in each chapter for easier understanding. It is suitable for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in urban and rural planning, architecture and landscape architecture in colleges and universities. It can be used as a reference material for personnel engaged in rural planning, design, construction and management and for the training and learning of rural cadres. Meanwhile, it can also be used as a reference for general audience who interested in rural planning and construction.

Prof. Dr. Guiqing Yang is Principal Investigator of the "Urban and Rural Development and Rural Planning" research team and Former Dean of the Department of Urban Planning in Tongji University. He was educated at Tongji University, Harvard University, and received his Ph.D. from Tongji University in 2003. The majority of his research focus on Chinese urbanization, urban and rural residential planning and design, urban and rural community planning, urban sociology, etc. His publications mainly includes Rural Settlements-Guidelines of Village Features in Huangyan (2020), Wuyan Old Village-Rebirth of Historical Cultural Village in Huangyan (2016), Huangyan Exploration- Planning & Construction for Beautiful Countryside (2015), Rural Community- Planning Standard & Design Studies (as chief editor, 2012), Rural China-report on Chinese rural settlements 2010 (as chief editor, 2011), Urban Social Psychology (as chief editor, 2000), and over 100 journal articles.
