Prof. (Dr.) Surbhi Dahiya
is Professor and Head of the Department of Media Business Studies at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Deemed to be University under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. She has previously served as Course Director for English Journalism and ADPR, Dean of Student Welfare, and Editor of Communicator. Internationally, Prof. Dahiya has represented India on numerous platforms. She is the IAMCR Faculty Ambassador, an elected member of its International Council, and Vice President of the South Asian Communication Association. In 2017, she was selected as the SUSI Scholar from India by the U.S. Department of State and attended the Study of the United States Institute at Ohio University. She serves as an advisor to the Lok Sabha Secretariat for their publications and has chaired and presented research at leading academic forums across the globe, including in Paris, Prague, Beijing, Nairobi, Helsinki, Leicester, Montreal, Dubai, and London. She was the Convenor of the WJEC-IIMC-UNESCO Roundtable in India (2021), and a speaker at prestigious conferences such as ICA, IAMCR, AMIC, and UNESCO events on journalism safety and press freedom. Academically, Prof. Dahiya is a gold medallist and scholarship recipient throughout her studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Media Studies and dual Master’s degrees. Her doctoral thesis focused on Media Management in the Global Scenario: A Study of the Changing Management Practices in Media. She has authored and edited several acclaimed books, including Handbook of Digital Journalism: Perspectives from South Asia (Springer, 2024); Mastering Beats in Journalism (Pearson, 2024); Digital First: Entrepreneurial Journalism in India (OUP UK, 2023);Indian Media Giants (OUP, 2022); Beat Reporting and Editing: Journalism in the Digital Age (SAGE, 2021), The House That ZEE Built (Rupa2021) and Connecting Threads: A Compendium of Indian Media Educators (Exchange4Media). She has received several national and international honours, such as Excellent Mentor in Journalism by Edutainment (2024), Educator of the Year by Exchange4Media (2023), Iconic Woman Award at the Women Economic Forum (2019), National Award for Contribution to Mass Communication Education by PRSI, TLJ Jury Award for Excellence in Journalism Education (2019) amongst others. Prof. Dahiya has also been Course Director for specialized training programmes for the Ministry of Defence, DRDO, SSB, NDRF, and corporate clients like TATA Steel and NTPC. She conducted a workshop on the “Effective Use of Social Media” for the media team of the Honourable Vice President of India in 2020. Her expertise is widely sought after in academic, administrative, and strategic training settings. She has delivered lectures at top institutions and bodies including IIM Bangalore, Delhi Judicial Academy, LBSNAA, Indian Forest Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, NCERT, PRIDE–Lok Sabha Secretariat, and more.
