The Contemporary Aural Course - Preparatory for Beginners, workbook.
This audio and workbook course is designed to equip the student from the earliest stages of learning with the ability to discern both pitch and rhythm, and transcribe sounds into music notation in the workbook. The audio tracks are available for purchase from the author's website.
Designed for the novice musician from the age of 5 and up, the voiceover instruction gently guides the beginner through the early stages of ear-training.
Topics covered include basic pitch recognition (high, low, mid-range pitches and direction) through to listening to the intervals, from the repeated note (Same or Prime) up to the interval of a fifth.
In addition, the course introduces awareness of rhythm and beat through listening and clapping, combined with the author's unique music shorthand transcription system which is a feature of the all levels of the course up to Set 6. In this Preparatory Set, the audio examples are played at a slow or moderate speed, and there is ample time allowed for students to rehearse their skills by singing or clapping and to complete their answers in the workbook.

Margaret Brandman's career in music as composer, pianist, recording artist, music educator, arranger and writer on music education spans more than 45 years. She has combined her compositional interests with her interest in accelerated learning techniques for music. Margaret has composed a large range of pieces for a variety of instruments and voice which have been released on several albums produced by Parma Recordings USA: SENSATIONS, ABRAZO and COSMIC WHEEL OF THE ZODIAC. Her concert works for piano, voice, chamber ensembles and orchestra receive both live performances and international airplay on a regular basis. In April 2019, she received the award for 'Best Foreign Composer' for her work FIRESTORM SYMPHONY (III) 'All the Trees are Growing' included on her SENSATIONS album, from the ARTEMIS FILM FESTIVAL in Los Angeles, CA. Margaret is writer and publisher of many music education materials in her contemporary series of education materials, which range from books for junior students to text books for high school and tertiary study. Her catalogue contains over 100 published books and compositions. At the time of writing, she is continuing her career as composer, recording artist, performer, and music educator.
