Il nous faudra écrire souvent ce mot ennui, racine de chaque ligne par nous tracée; il est des mots dont la répétition est d'effet plus désagréable; celui-là est pour ne pas déplaire à l'oeil et à l'oreille; il est gris d'aspect, gris-perle, gris terne et plombé; sa sonorité est sourde. Éteinte; on dirait de ces sons voilés, lointains, tintement harmonieux, glas plaintif, à qui notre âme s'accommode aussitôt et dont elle reçoit un rythme berceur.
Cette introduction n'est pas un résumé, et notre plan est trop simple po'ur qu'une exposition préparatoire soit nécessaire. Nous étudierons d'abord les causes de l'ennui.
