Hurlez si vous voulez ! Poussez même votre dernier cri, Madame ! (Elle pousse Claire qui reste accroupie dans un coin.) Enfin ! Madame est morte ! étendue sur le linoléum... étranglée par les gants de la vaisselle. Madame peut rester assise ! Madame peut m'appeler mademoiselle Solange. Justement. C'est à cause de ce que j'ai fait. Madame et Monsieur m'appelleront mademoiselle Solange Lemercier... Madame aurait dû enlever cette robe noire, c'est grotesque. (Elle imite la voix de Madame.) M'en voici réduite à porter le deuil de ma bonne. A la sortie du cimetière, tous les domestiques du quartier défilaient devant moi comme si j'eusse été de la famille. J'ai si souvent prétendu qu'elle faisait partie de la famille. La morte aura poussé jusqu'au bout la plaisanterie. Oh ! Madame... je suis l'égale de Madame et je marche la tête haute...
