A unique photo chronicle by Polly Samson of the creation, recording and live performance of David Gilmour''s album Luck and Strange. Featuring both colour and black-and-white photography by Polly Samson, this photobook chronicles the making of the fifth studio album by guitarist and songwriter David Gilmour, released in September 2024, 9 years after his previous album, and the subsequent supporting 21-venue global tour. It became Gilmour''s third no. 1 album in the UK charts. The album features keyboards recorded in 2007 by Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright who died in 2008. Polly Samson wrote most of the lyrics to the songs and the couple''s children contributed additional vocals, lyrics an instrumentation. Samson''s photographs chart the progression of the creation of the album from conception to recording and from release to live performance. Intimate behind-the-scenes photos sit alongside poignant, introspective photos and dramatic stage performances. She comments that the lyrics address the subjects of mortality and ageing. The cover of this book - like the cover of the album - was designed by Anton Corbijn. The book features an interview by rock photographer Jill Furmanovsky with Pollly Samson, shedding further light on the process of creating the album and providing insights into Samson''s relationship with David and her photography practice. Alan Yentob has penned a foreword.
