Urban ecosystems pose a very important ecological challenge in conservation, restoration, and reconciliation ecology. Numerous studies have addressed the effects of urban development on bird communities in temperate regions. However, little is known about the effects of urbanization on avifauna in the tropics, despite the fact that the rich tropical biota is under immense pressure from a rapidly increasing human population. The increasing population and spatial prominence of urban areas is reason enough to study these landscapes, while there are absolutely no report on urban avifauna with emphasis to habitat attributes and its variation along the urbanization gradients in the southern part of the India. Thus, there exists a research gap and hence the present study was attempted in the Nilgiris Tamil Nadu India.
