Despite a promise to her sons to end her dangerous abolitionist activities, a widow refuses to turn away a desperate runaway in need of shelter. When sadistic slave catchers arrive in town and terrorize her family, she must face the deadly consequences of her broken promise. What follows is both a heart-breaking and heart-warming story of a family in need of healing from grief, terror, and destructive secrets.
