TO purfue'a 'chrqnologicéhnarrative, in all the variety of incidents which arife, general and lo cal, permanent and tranfitory in their effeéts, many of them of that doubtful defcription which feems too tri¿ing to be mentioned, and yet too important to be omitted, will necefiar¿y occafion dihimilarity of ityle, and produce an unequal efa fect upon the reader. But it is not a romance, or a feleéied piece, that is to be narrated; it is a faithful and minute detail of occurrences in a country, young, fecluded, and ju¿: impre¿ing it felf on the attention of the elder world.
