Die Studie umfasst zwei Schritte: Zunachst wird ein Konzept zur Analyse externer Faktoren bei Demokratisierungen entwickelt. Anhand von zwei Fallbeispielen werden dann der externe Einfluss und das Demokratisierungspotenzial der EU untersucht: bei der relativ problemlosen Demokratisierung Spaniens sowie bei der defekten Demokratie der Slowakei.
