Im Nachlasse von H. Knust fand sich neben andern Ab schriften altspanischer Texte eine Übersetzung des Marco Polo. Da Herr Professor A. Birch-hirschfeld durch anderweitige Arbeiten verhindert war, so übernahm der Unterzeichnete ihre Herausgabe, freilich nicht als jemand, der berufen wäre, die Aufgaben und Fragen, die dieser Text der romanischen Philologie und Linguistik stellt, zu behandeln. Für den Heraus geber war das Interesse an dem vorliegenden Text an die Person Marco Polos und den sachlichen Gehalt seines Berichtes geknüpft.
