About the author

Allison F. Goebel is a professor in the school of environmental studies with cross appointments in gender studies, global development studies and sociology. She has recently published a book entitled: On Their Own: Women, Urbanization, and the Right to the City in South Africa (McGill-Queen's University Press, 2015).
