Manger, tout comme boire, fumer ou se droguer,
mais aussi jeûner, peuvent apporter un apaisement
momentané lorsque la souffrance psychique est
trop intense. S'intéressant, une fois de plus en
précurseur, à l'alcoolisme et à la boulimie, Ferenczi
montre que l'addiction n'est pas la cause, mais la
conséquence d'une souffrance, d'un traumatisme
et qu'en cela, elle relève de la stratégie de survie,
avec une fonction tout à fait précise : «soigner»
le sujet...
