Phèdre

La légende de cet amour interdit, puisque Hippolyte
est le fils de Thésée à qui Phèdre est mariée, Racine
l'emprunte à Euripide et à Sénèque. Mais alors que
la tradition théâtrale plaçait Hippolyte au devant
de la scène, en 1677, Racine l'en écarte au profit de
Phèdre, pour écrire la tragédie d'une femme torturée,
sans doute coupable mais également frappée par la
fatalité, qui lutte de toutes ses forces pour combattre
une passion qui la submerge et finit par porter la
mort autour d'elle - et sur elle.
