Immanuel Kant, 1724 - 1804, ist hauptsächlich durch seine erkenntnistheoretischen philosophischen Werke wie z.B. "Kritik der reinen Vernunft" (1781) bekannt geworden und gilt als Begründer der klassischen deutschen Philosophie. Die naturwissenschaftlichen Arbeiten Kants entstanden vorwiegend in seiner frühen Schaffensperiode. Seine bedeutendste Leistung auf dem Gebiet der Naturwissenschaften ist die "Kosmogonie", die 1755 zum ersten Mal erschien.
