Ondine, fille des eaux, confiante dans
la puissance de l'amour qu'elle éprouve
pour le chevalier Hans von Wittenstein zu
Wittenstein, accepte le pacte du Roi des
Ondins : elle partira et vivra son amour
humain, mais, si Hans la trahit, il mourra et
Ondine retournera au Lac, perdant jusqu'au
souvenir de son existence terrestre.
Poétique, étincelante, avec un dialogue
d'une rare richesse, Ondine, pièce en trois
actes qui met en scène la fragilité des amours
humaines, a été créée le 4 mai 1939 au
théâtre de l'Athénée, sous la direction de
Louis Jouvet qui jouait le rôle du chevalier.
