Anna Andrejewna Achmatowa, am 23. Juni 1889 bei Odessa als Anna Gorenko geboren, nahm mit 17 Jahren den Namen ihrer tartarischen Großmutter an. Bereits 1912 veröffentlichte sie ihren ersten Gedichtband. Sie starb am 5. März 1966 in Domodedowo bei Moskau.
