Qu'est-ce qui nous pousse à nous aimer ? L'amour
de soi a-t-il des vertus ? Explorant les causes et les
effets du narcissisme jusque dans l'admiration
aveugle de certains parents pour leurs enfants,
Freud bouleverse sa théorie des pulsions et
annonce les thèses révolutionnaires de Au-delà
du principe de plaisir. Le moi devient un «grand
réservoir de libido». Apparaît aussi l'un des
principaux concepts de la psychanalyse, l'idéal du
moi, ce modèle positif que nous essayons tous
inconsciemment d'égaler et qui est intimement lié à
la conscience morale.
«Pour introduire le narcissisme» est suivi notamment
d'un autre texte de Freud, «Une difficulté de
la psychanalyse», et de l'essai de Karl Abraham
sur lequel Freud s'appuie explicitement pour élaborer
sa théorie.
