What makes us think that the quilombola communities that exist today still maintain or should maintain their way of life similar to those of the early 20th century? Like other social groups, quilombola communities also show intense social dynamics, following the changes that occur in the environment and in their social surroundings. As we know, societies and social groups can be extremely dynamic, especially when there is a need to preserve their way of life. This statement may seem contradictory, but as this study shows, it is sometimes necessary to change and adapt to new socio-environmental configurations in order to guarantee the existence and maintenance of the way of life of certain social groups, such as contemporary quilombola communities.
