Pierre Guariche
L'oeuvre foisonnante de Pierre Guariche (1926-1995) accompagne les Trente Glorieuses comme les grands changements administratifs et sociétaux des années 1980.
Formé par Marcel Gascoin, Guariche débute en 1951 comme décorateur- créateur de modèles indépendant. Il conçoit pendant près de vingt ans un mobilier novateur en s'appuyant sur des éditeurs d'avant-garde, tels Airborne, la galerie MAI, Meubles TV, Steiner, Les Huchers-Minvielle, puis Meurop, ou encore Pierre Disderot pour les luminaires. Revisitant les formes utiles à l'aune de nouveaux matériaux, il fonde en 1954 l'Atelier de recherches plastiques (ARP) avec Michel Mortier et Joseph- André Motte, premier collectif français de créateurs qui durera trois ans.
À partir des années 1960, il privilégie l'architecture intérieure, où sa maîtrise de l'espace, des matières et de leur mise en oeuvre l'impose sur de nombreux projets. Il participe au chantier de Firminy après le décès de Le Corbusier et collabore avec les architectes Michel Bezançon à la création de La Plagne et Jean Dubuisson à Bandol. Sollicité pour de multiples chantiers privés ou publics, il aménage notamment la préfecture et le conseil général de l'Essonne à Évry ainsi que le tribunal de grande instance de Créteil.
S'appuyant sur des archives inédites, cet ouvrage revient sur un parcours riche de plus de 200 aménagements, presque autant de meubles et un ensemble exceptionnel d'appareils d'éclairage qui pose les jalons du luminaire moderne.

The prodigious work of Pierre Guariche (1926-1995) goes hand in hand with France's Trente Glorieuses,' as well as the enormous administrative and societal changes of the 1980s.
Trained by Marcel Gascoin, Guariche began his career in 1951 as an independent decorator-designer. For almost twenty years, he designed innovative furniture in collaboration with avant-garde manufacturers, such as Airborne, the Galerie MAI, Meubles TV, Steiner, Les Huchers-Minvielle and Meurop, as well as creating lighting fixtures with Disderot. Working with the latest materials, revising utilitarian designs, he founded the Atelier de Recherches Plastiques (ARP) in 1954, with Michel Mortier and Joseph- André Motte, the first French design collective ; it would last for three years. From the 1960s, he concentrated on interior architecture, applying his mastery of space and materials to many projects. He was involved in work on Firminy after Le Corbusier's death and collaborated with architect Michel Bezançon on the creation of La Plagne ski resort and with Jean Dubuisson in Bandol. Commissioned for many private and public projects, Guariche fitted out the prefecture and the departmental council of Essonne in Évry and the regional court of Créteil.
Drawing on previously unpublished archives, this book looks at more than two hundred interiors, almost as many pieces of furniture, and an exceptional range of lighting fixtures that set the standard for modern lighting.
