Excerpt from Stories From China
"Hurrah! hurrah! Jem's in. The telegram has come. 'Passed 10th.' Isn't it splendid?" Thus exclaimed Tom Foster, as he rushed one day into his sisters' schoolroom, where two little girls were quietly engaged in preparing their lessons. Down went the books, and away rushed Mabel and Grace to see the precious paper, and rejoice with their widowed mother in the good news which it had brought. Most anxiously that yellow document had been looked for for some days, and very painful had been the last few weeks of suspense, for it was of the utmost importance that Jem should succeed.
