House Sparrows - Are they in danger?

According to official statistics from the United Kingdom, 50 house sparrows are found to die every hour. Researchers have highlighted that there are millions of Britain's birds which are disappearing annually. According to the State of U.K's Birds 2012, there are only around 166 million nesting birds in Great Britain while records have shown that in 1966, there used to be 210 million nesting birds. House sparrows were found to be among the worst hit, with numbers down by 20 million compared with the 1960s. Studies have also demonstrated that the birds which are reliant on farmed land - lapwings, cuckoos and turtle doves, have experience a significant decrease in numbers. Besides, there was a steep decline in willow tits since the 1990s. The possible factors have are contributing for the fast disappearance of these birds could be losses of habitats, the rise in some non-native species and a lack of food...
