Informationen zum Autor MICHAEL D. HOBKIRK retired from the Ministry of Defence in 1982, and since then he has been a Senior Research Fellow at the National Defense University in Washington, DC. During his career in the Civil Services he was Principal Establishment and Finance Officer in the Lord Chancellor's Department and Senior Civilian Director at the UK National Defence College. His publications include contributions to The Management of Defence and Reorganising for America's Defence, and to various journals and seminars on defence organisation and management. Klappentext Throughout history many nations have had to make hard choices between a land and a maritime strategy. This study covers the history of such choices, beginning with the Persian invasion of Greece in 490BC and ending with the many and various choices facing the Western world in the aftermath of the Cold War. If many wars of the past are now seen as the outcome of maritime/land strategies, the lessons learned from them and discussed in this book can provide some answers to those who have to consider wars of the future.
