Taking as its point of departure The Quiet Man (1952), it provides a cultural history that charts the ways in which the Returned Yank indexes a set of recurring anxieties in Ireland from 1952 to the present.

Sinéad Moynihan is Associate Professor in American and Atlantic Literatures at the University of Exeter. She is author of "Other People's Diasporas" Negotiating Race in Contemporary Irish and Irish-American Culture (2013) and Passing into the Present: Contemporary American Fiction of Racial and Gender Passing (2010).
