Passing through the backwoods town of Sparta, Mississippi, Philadelphia detective Virgil Tibbs (Sidney Poitier) becomes embroiled in a murder case. Das ist ein super Thriller mit super Schauspielern. Vorallem Sidney Poltier glänzt in seiner Rolle. Ausserdem wird das Thema Rassismus sehr inteligent behandelt. Und das man den Mörder erahnt, kann man einem Film von 1961 auch nicht übel nehmen und es ist auch nebensache!
