Informationen zum Autor E. Merton Coulter (Editor) E. MERTON COULTER came to the University of Georgia as an associate professor in 1919; he was named an emeritus professor of history in 1958 and continued to work on campus until his death in 1981. During his career, he wrote or edited more than thirty books and his contributions to periodicals were extensive. Coulter was coeditor of the ten-volume History of the South and author of two of the volumes in the series; he also served as editor of the Georgia Historical Quarterly for fifty years. Albert B. Saye (Editor) ALBERT B. SAYE (1912-1989) was a professor of political science at the University of Georgia who was one of the most well-known scholars of Georgia history and politics of his time. He is the author of twelve books including New Viewpoints in Georgia History , A List of the Early Settlers of Georgia , Handbook on the Constitutions of the United States and Georgia (all Georgia), and Principles of American Governmen t. Klappentext This list of settlers in Georgia up to 1741 is taken from a manuscript volume of the Earl of Egmont, purchased with twenty other volumes of manuscripts on early Georgia history by the University of Georgia in 1947. The 2,979 settlers are listed in alphabetical order, followed by their age, occupation, date of embarcation, date of arrival, lot in Savannah or in Frederica, and (where applicable) "Dead, Quitted, or Run Away." Footnotes give additional information concerning many of the people listed. This volume was published in 1949 to help scholarly research in the history of colonial of Georgia.
