Many Latin American governments are attracting and harnessing nontraditional foreign direct investment (FDI) to promote their own development. Some governments are more effective at this than others. To help explain these different outcomes, this book provides an in-depth analysis of recent government efforts to promote nontraditional FDI in Costa Rica; the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil; and Chile. For comparative purposes, the book also examines the highly successful cases of Ireland and Singapore.

About the author

Roy C. Nelson is Associate Professor of Global Studies at Thunderbird School of Global Management. He is the author of Industrialization and Political Affinity: Industrial Policy in Brazil (1995).
