About the author

Prof. Rotimi Sadiku attained his BSc. [Hons] in 1980 and PhD in 1986 from the University of Strathclyde, UK, where he specialized in Polymer Physics. Following his graduation, he took up a position as a lecturer, at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria until September 1989, when he took-up a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship position at the University of Genova/CNR, in Italy (1989-1990). He returned to Nigeria and joined the Federal University of Technology, Minna, as a senior lecturer, in January 1991. In 1997, he spent a year as a Research Fellow at the KTH Institute of Technology, in Stockholm, Sweden. He also had a 3-month research exposure at the Faculty of Physics, at the University of Freiburg, Germany. He then returned to the Federal University of Technology, in Minna. In July 1999, he went to the Stellenbosch University as a Research Fellow, where he spent 2 years, following which, he returned to the Federal University of Technology, in Minna as a senior lecturer in June 2001. After another year at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, he took up a position as a Principal Scientist with Sasol, in Sasolburg, RSA. He spent 1.5 years with Sasol and then took up his current position, as a Research Professor at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), in Pretoria in Jan. 2004. He is the author/co-author of more than 300 journal articles and conference proceedings and has written more than 80 book chapters. He is also the co-innovator of 9 patented inventions.Dr. Busari Ayobami completed her PhD in Civil Engineering at Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. Her PhD focused on the development of sustainable pavements using nanomaterials. She had her postdoctoral fellowship at The Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, South Africa, on composite and waste to develop sustainable infrastructure.
She is a civil engineer and researcher with a passion for pavement and materials engineering. Dr Busari Ayobami has contributed to several papers on the development of sustainable infrastructure using supplementary innovative materials such as nanocomposites, polymers, and waste. She has received numerous awards for her research and contribution to the built environment. She has been an active researcher since 2014 with several articles published in high-impact factor journals, such as Elsevier, Springer, Taylor & Francis, IOP, and Bentham.Prof Williams Kehinde Kupolati holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the premiere University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He joined the lecturing staff in the Department after completing thirteen years of professional experience working in major areas of civil engineering practice. He is presently an Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, South Africa. He supervises masters and doctoral students involved in civil engineering materials, nanomaterials, the beneficial use of waste, and transportation engineering. and modelling. Prof Kupolati’s research and scientific endeavors include the use of waste, pozzolans, nanomaterials and smart materials for Civil Engineering applications: extending to asphalt, concrete, rail, building, and construction, to mention a few that ensure green infrastructure.Prof. JM Ndambuki completed his PhD from Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands (2001) in Civil Engineering. He is a Registered Professional Civil Engineer (Engineers Board of Kenya), as well as a Registered Professional Engineer (Engineering Council of South Africa). He has been in practice for the last 32 years both locally and abroad. He has lectured widely in Kenya and South Africa and has held administrative positions in several universities. His research interests include: stochastic optimization, multi-objective optimization, groundwater quality and quantity modeling, decision support systems, and wastewater treatment through constructed wetlands, innovative construction materials, and the impact of climate change on water resources and health, and groundwater pollution remediation.
