The act of creating Environmental Parks involves judgements that fall within the competence of the State Government, which can even decide whether or not to create them. However, once the creation has been decided, the political judgement is exhausted and the act of creation now requires a technical justification as required by law. In the state of Goiás, Decree 5.768/2003 created the Serra Dourada State Park, the delimitation of which had an impact on a considerable number of rural landowners. The aggravating factor is that no prior technical study or public consultation with the local population was carried out for its implementation, which is guaranteed by Law 9.985/2000. In this context, it was necessary to carry out a new study to redelimit the park. To this end, spatial data was analysed using geoprocessing and remote sensing techniques, together with on-site work, which resulted in the new delimitation and a map of the park's land use and coverage.
