Human rights are gradually taking centre stage on the international agenda of the 21st century. More than a great movement or doctrine, the realisation is growing that human rights are ultimately a way of life. In this debate on human rights, the issue of refugees in the world is one of the most complex problems facing the international community today. The issue is the subject of intense debate both domestically and internationally, in search of more effective ways to protect and assist these particularly vulnerable groups, who constantly suffer violations of their human rights. This book is a study of the legal situation of refugees in contemporary international law; more specifically, we aim to analyse International Refugee Law and its internalisation in Brazil. The recent international situation has given greater prominence to this issue, since the community of nations seems to realise, more and more, that its observance has a great influence on the protection of human rights.
