About the author

Zbigniew Pianowski is a group leader at the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany. He received his PhD in chemistry in 2008 under the supervision of Prof. Nicolas Winssinger at ISIS ULP Strasbourg, France. Then, he joined the group of Prof. Donald Hilvert at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, as postdoctoral fellow, working in the area of protein engineering. In 2022, he accomplished his habilitation at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. His current research interests are focused on applications of molecular photoswitches to control biological systems, the origins of life on earth, and various aspects of synthetic biology.
