Indien ist ein Land mit einer alten und überaus vielschichtigen Kultur. Die Vielfalt der Kulturen und Religionen manifestiert sich in einer kaum zu überblickenden Topografie von Architektur und Skulpturen. Der Fotograf Nicolaus Schmidt stellt diese Vielfalt in stark fokussierten Fotografien dar. Das Buch legt Bezüge und Verwandtschaften der Artefakte aus verschiedenen Religionen und Epochen offen. Ebenso spiegeln sich die koloniale Herrschaft, internationale kulturelle Beziehungen, aber auch die extremen sozialen Gegensätze in den Fotografien wider. Es entstehen eigene Kunstwerke, die zugleich die architektonischen Besonderheiten der Bauwerke und Artefakte von der Antike bis zur Moderne verdeutlichen. India Tecton ist ein neuartiger, visuell eindringlicher Zugang zu indischer Architektur und Kunst.

Summary
India is a country with an ancient and extremely multilayered culture. The diversity of cultures and religions is manifested in a topography of architecture and sculpture that is difficult to survey. The photographer Nicolaus Schmidt presents this diversity in highly focused photographs. The book reveals references and kinships between artifacts from various religions and epochs. The photographs also reflect colonial domination and international cultural relationships, as well as the extreme social contrasts. What arise are standalone artworks that simultaneously highlight the architectural characteristics of buildings and artifacts from antiquity to the modern era. India Tecton is an innovative, visually powerful approach to architecture and art in India.
