Dominik Halmers Gemälde und Bildobjekte basieren auf der Vorstellung einer sich mit dem Realraum verknüpfenden Malerei. Dreidimensionale Gegenstände wie Holzringe oder Bälle werden mit gemalten Elementen und Gesten in Beziehung gesetzt. Verbunden durch visuelle Analogien prallen so unterschiedliche Realitätsebenen in einer poetisch-assoziativen Einheit aufeinander. Halmer spielt mit einem eigenen Referenzsystem, in dem eine regelhafte Beziehung zwischen Leinwandbild, Objekt und Raumzeichen angenommen wird. In der Installation Territory lässt Dominik Halmer seine Arbeiten über grafische Zeichen an der Wand in einen Dialog treten, der grundlegende Ideen von Prozess- und Sinnhaftigkeit thematisiert. Neben zahlreichen Ausstellungsansichten enthält der Band ein Gespräch mit dem Künstler.
DOMINIK HALMER (*1978, München) studierte zunächst Philosophie und Kunstgeschichte an der Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, dann Freie Kunst an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf bei Albert Oehlen und an der Akademie der bildenden Künste in Wien bei Heimo Zobernig. Halmer lebt und arbeitet in Berlin.

DOMINIK HALMER (*1978, Munich), studied philosophy and art history at the Humboldt University Berlin, then Fine Arts at the Kunstakademie Du?sseldorf with Albert Oehlen and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Heimo Zobernig. His works have been shown nationally and internationally in solo and group exhibitions. Halmer lives and works in Berlin.
Summary
Dominik Halmer’s paintings and pictorial objects are based on the idea of connecting painting to real space. Three-dimensional objects like wooden rings and balls interact with painted elements and gestures. Different levels of reality, which are connected through visual analogies, collide in a poetic and associative unity. Halmer plays with an internal system of references that suggests a rule-based relationship between canvas painting, object, and spatial sign. In the installation Territory, Dominik Halmer places graphic symbols on the wall that let the individual works play off one another by engaging in a dialogue addressing fundamental ideas about the nature of processes and meaning. The catalogue contains numerous installation views and a conversation with the artist.
