Excerpt from Early Glasgow: A History of the City of Glasgow From the Earliest Times to the Year 1611

The history so designed was accordingly commenced shortly after the publication of the volume referred to, and was brought down as far as the year 1600, but when that period was reached the manuscript was laid aside to make way for preparation of the book on The River Géyda and tire Clyde Burg/25, upon which Sir James bestowed most of his attention in the closing years of his life. It is to be regretted that greater progress was not made in the work, but still it is fortunate that the portion accomplished covers a period of the city's history with which the author was so specially qualified to deal.
