T would be an intrusion for me to come before this congregation merely for the purpose of pronouncing a eulogium upon the man in memory of whom the service is held. It is not needed that any one should write his epitaph. It is already inscribed upon the hearts of thousands, in characters that will not be effaced for many a year. All ye that were about him, among whom he has gone as a friend, a guide, a teacher, an inspirer, bemoan him; and all that know his name say, How is the strong staff broken, and the beautiful rod!
