Mio nobile maestro,
Je offro con affetto dì figlio questa edizione dei nostro grande poeta, tenue compenso all'affettuosa consuetudine con cui mi ha saputo innamorare degli studii di filologia siciliana, de' quali ella è, in Italia, meritamente l'antesignano.
E spero che le giunga gradita la offerta, mentre ella, in questo primo centenario della morte del Meli, con insuperabile genialità ed afta dottrina, evoca e ricostruisce dalla cattedra del nostro glorioso Ateneo la sua immortale figura.
